the joker vs batman

last night was pizza and beer night, followed by a round in the tournament of leppers. i love pizza and beer night, we ride our bikes to the local pizza joint for tasty pizza and i drink til i’m fuzzy. i love riding my fixed gear home buzzed/drunk.

my tummy filled with garlic, onion, artichoke heart and white sauce pizza and new belgium beer, i went against l3rucewayne. it was truly the joker against batman, and this time, somehow, the joker actually won. i think l3rucewayne was being kind, or heavily distracted, but i managed a win. maybe it was cause i was chatting the whole time, especially when it was his move. it was a pretty tactical game, maybe it was the beer and music, but my moves flowed. anyway, here is the game:

one thing i love about playing chess on the internet is i have another browser open to youtube, and i listen to cool music while i play. last night i was listening to “common people,” both the original version by pulp and the shatner version, which really rocks. then i listened to “bump” by rehab and then the game was over.

i’m taking advice and carrying around reinfeld’s 1001 winning chess sacrifices and combos and looking at it every chance i get, along with ray cheng’s book. i’m not playing blitz (well, except i did play a quick game last night before the game with l3rucewayne).

i actually think i’m learning this game, i actually think i might have a chance at getting to 2000. at least for today it feels that way. it’s friday, i have to work, and i’m walking on sunshine.

one last thing….mr parx brought this to my attention in the comments, so i’ll post it here for all to see

i wish a spectacular weekend to anyone reading this.

I knd of like Shatner’s version of “common people” .

I like streaming radio paradise or pandora set to Indie rock while chess-puting.

I third the motion that the Shatner version of Common People kicks ass. It is one of the few songs I have my (Sirius) radio tell me when it is about to come on.

i sleep with the Reinfeld book. i am serious. if i am exhausted, i always still stare at a position in bed right before lights out., every night–no matter what. i am also a very, very light sleeper. if i wake up after half an hour latter, i open the book. i love this book. but it does help me sleep. there is so much advanced study material that is published, but some of those problems are by no means easy. :) my binding is completely ruptured, so upon awakening i must always push the pages back into the cover, which is how i begin every single day, as moving in bed rocks the book, then it all cascades across the top of the bed…

nice to see you are a New Belgium fan as well!!!!

I just had FAT TIRE just over a year ago. A friend of my father-in-law brought 3 cases back from a road trip to CO. I managed to get my hands on 6 of them and i’ve been hooked ever since… Mighty tasty beverage! :)

A Shatner version? As in the William Shatner? While unfamiliar with the song, this must be worth the price of admission.

l3rucewayne mentioned that he liked to chat during games, but I find it difficult to type and play decent chess (the “live blog” of the first match has quickly fallen into disuse). This would have been the biggest upset of the tournament so far, except Tacticus lost as well.

blunderprone - i shall check out radio paradise and pandora, thanks..

BDK - i had sirius in my rental car, that is pretty cool stuff, i think i want to get it in real life…

david - i also look at one position right before i go to sleep, then i think about that position until i fall asleep…i don’t know if it helps my chess, but i get cool dreams…

dan - i’m hoping to visit the brewery and get the tour someday soon. if you ever get to colorado, you gotta let me know….

liquid egg product - yes, THE captain james t j hooker kirk does a super kick ass verision of “common people.” check it out on you tube… as far as upsets go, i seriously think l3rucewayne let me win, or at least didn’t care if he lost…..

My Man, it’s you and me in Round 5 this week! Since you’re not in some far east time zone, I could play you ’round 9 pm Pacific (10 for you) on Tuesday or Wednesday as a 1st possibility. I’ll check back here, or email me. Thanks1

I do tend to enjoy chatting, so I doubt it had that big an effect. And you won fair and square with me hoping for a win. For some reason my tactical vision just wasn’t up to snuff that day, and that’s all the excuse I have. As I said during the game, your a scary aggressive player(or so it seemed). Anywho, thanks for the game:-), and thanks for posting it so I can just link to you. I’m just too lazy right now to put it up on my blog move by move.

[...] Liquid Egg Product Tournament Rounds 3 and 4 Well, I’m too lazy to put the moves up the hard way(it doesn’t help that I lost the two games), so I’m linking to my opponents’ hard work instead. If you want to look over the games, here they are: round 3(with analysis, just click “TheDarkKnightTwo vs. NoTB”), round four. [...]
